Media Project Management
' Manage selected book-specific web site (including Mastering), course management, instructor media, and other online and DVD/CD-ROM projects in coordination with book process as appropriate from signing through go-live/GM to make media a part of the book development story from the start of a project.
' Manage cross-functional teams (content providers, web production, third-party vendors).
' Facilitate the creation of media for class-testing and sales presentations as needed.
Media Strategy
' Regularly evaluate our competition's offerings to make sure that we stay ahead of the competition in our markets.
' Communicate with marketing managers and tech specialists, to get their feedback about what's needed in our markets and to provide updates about products.
' Conduct market research, including surveys and focus groups for assigned projects - write questionnaires, follow up with questions.
' Evaluate potential media projects and advise Editors upon request
' Support Editors in book signings where media will play a role
Tasks include:
' Write media plans, key website documents, media grids, and complete other media-related forms as necessary for media projects
' Create RFPs and get bids from vendors as necessary
' Write launch memos for media (may be part of launch for textbook)
' Own the budget for media projects, set up budget, monitor
' Hire and manage vendors, content-providers, and freelancers for projects as needed
' Commission Quality Assurance testing
' Work with Marketing Manager to prepare any competitive analyses and product feature descriptions for media products
' Communicate with tech support and tech reps before the publication of any media product in advance so they are ready to handle customer questions
' Work with technical teams, managing content delivery for projects
' Write Freelancer Agreements for contributors, vendors, etc.
' Submit monthly report on each media project
' Submit monthly qualitative report to Sr. Media Producer
' Gather anecdotal evidence from sales reps, and report on media-related sales
' Attend general media producer meetings and disseminate media information to book team members as appropriate.
' Create and update process documentation
Sales/Marketing Support:
' NSM prep support (review marketing materials, provide screenshots as necessary, create walk-throughs of media, etc.)
' Provide support for assigned media projects.
' Answer questions as they are escalated to you on your projects from sales reps, professors, as well as Customer Technical Support.
' Respond within 24 hours (at the most) and make sure to either give the correct answer, send to the person who can answer the question, or give a time estimate to the rep for a response.
' Collect positive student and professor quotes to provide to Marketing for assigned projects.
' Review and provide feedback on the Media portion of any brochures, prefaces, or back cover copy.
' Upon request attend national conferences. Responsibilities may include: research competing media, set up focus groups on media, demo our media in the booth, attend educational lectures on how media is being used in and out of classroom.
' Spend at least three days on campus each semester to speak directly with professors, attend lectures, meet with students, etc.
Preferred qualities:
' Strong project management skills
' Strong communication skills
' At least 1 yr experience in media project management, managing cross-functional teams
' Collaborative, team player
' The candidate does not need programming skills, but an understanding of technical product management including products using Flash, Shockwave. Java, HTML, and XML.
' Publishing experience and an interest in science a plus
