As a member of the Marketing Department, this position is responsible for supporting the department's print advertising campaigns and interacting with our vendors. It is directly accountable for project management, design, and production for brochures, ads, and various collateral and catalog graphics as well as assisting with maintaining our archiving records and updating our portfolio.

This includes staying abreast of all titles in Math and Life Sciences, Chemistry, Geoscience, Health & Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Physics & Astronomy lists, as well as working with the product teams to give special focus for key titles. It requires communication with marketing, discipline product teams, and the Product Information Group to develop appropriate strategies and implementation, as well as participating in editorial and marketing launch meetings to assist with developing promotional campaigns.

Design and project management: (45%)
Plan promotion campaigns by book and product lines.
' Attend and participate in all preliminary meetings including editorial and marketing launches
' Work collaboratively with product teams and marketing to clearly define content and goals of projects
' Collaborate with Creative Director and copywriter(s) on concepts of all promotions
' Develop your own compelling layouts as well as take direction for assigned brochures, all ads, letters, BRCs, flipsheets, posters, etc.
' Research and manage production of premiums/promotional give-aways
' Manage ongoing input and implement revisions from all appropriate departments
' Coordinate the routing of all promo for group approval
' Execute the design, produce mechanicals and attend the press checks
' Assist Creative Director with production on key projects
' Ensure consistent corporate identity on all promotion pieces.
' Ensure consistent adherence to Marcom standards on all promotion pieces.

Promotional piece production and archiving: (30%)
Follow established Marketing Communications procedures to produce accurate files and ensure ease of locating past jobs.
' Ensure for cohesiveness, accuracy and timeliness
' Ensure all jobs have been assigned a job number and the filing system is utilizing them
' Assist in managing all pre-press work, including files from freelancers
' Produce disk and laser separations to prepare for film output on all projects
' Assist in establishing and maintaining production budget
' Maintain portfolio, marcom files and archiving system for all promotional pieces
' Convert cover files to the required specifications for the Product Master and upload to the CDA
' Help create the graphics for press kits for products with trade potential
' Assist with the layout and graphics for PowerPoint presentations
' Scan images and convert to appropriate use as specified, including tiffs, eps, gifs, jpegs, etc.
' Assist the online team with HTML email design, as needed

Coordinate with all external partners: (25%)
Communicate effectively and work with external partners to ensure all documents needed for projects are secured and monitor progress throughout job.
' Assist Creative Director with determining which vendors are most suitable for specific jobs, i.e. printers, freelancers, and mailhouses
' Coordinate and provide information and files to other corporate divisions, particularly the Product Information Group and our sister company, Allyn & Bacon/Longman
' Interact with in-house production team to get art files needed for promotions
' Interact with manufacturing to get specs and arrange deliveries for special promotions
' Create initial spec sheets to get estimates from vendors on all projects



Formal education or equivalent
The position requires a BA/BS in graphic design or fine arts

Skills
Advanced proficiency with QuarkXpress, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop; knowledge of file preparation for print; knowledge with press checks for 4-color and 2-color projects; and preparation for web graphics and illustration ability a plus
