HNRCA investigators conduct advanced studies on nutrition and aging. The research focuses on determining the optimal nutrient profile necessary to promote well-being for older adults. HNRCA scientists examine how nutrition plays a major role in the prevention of the major chronic degenerative conditions and diseases associated with aging.
The HNRCA is operated by Tufts University through a cooperative agreement with the Agricultural Research Service (ARS). Located on Tufts University health Science campus in Boston, Massachusetts, the HNRCA is one of six human nutrition research centers in the United States which is supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
As part of the HNRCA´s centralized administrative team, the staff assistant provides administrative and financial support to multiple laboratory and/or administrative clients. Tasks include:- Preparing and reviewing expense, budget, and labor reports;
- Monitoring financial transactions;
- Preparing, reviewing, submitting, and tracking administrative forms;
- Assisting in the preparation of grant applications and the review of budgets;
- Filing and maintenance of files;
- Proof reading and editing materials;
- Acting as backup for mail distribution;
- Coordinating meetings, programs and travel arrangements;
- Acting as department resource for all administrative matters, resolving problems and directing concerns to appropriate person;
- Retrieving information from print or internet;
- Helping prepare PowerPoint presentations,;
- Assisting in ordering laboratory supplies.
Basic Requirements: High School Diploma or the equivalent with 1 - 3 years related experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Demonstrated Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Intermediate to Advanced use of Excel preferred. Basic math skills. Self-motivated individual with experience in an administrative support setting. Able to be professional and ethical manner at all times. Experience with higher education and/or a federally-funded institution is helpful. Ability to handle multiple projects and or lab assignments simultaneously with prioritization. Confidentiality and discretion is key.
