The Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM) provides facilities, services, and information to facilitate effective research using laboratory animals at Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center in Boston and Tufts University in Medford. DLAM is also obligated to insure that animal care procedures and animal experimentation comply with federal, state, and local regulations.The management and operation of the animal care activities of all sites are integral to the animal care and use program. All centralized facilities are located within a 2-block radius, either in Boston or Medford, housing in excess of 40,000 animals daily.
The Laboratory Animal Care Supervisor will:
- Maintain the day-to-day operations of DLAM´s animal facilities;
- Supervise 19-25 animal care staff employees;
- Assist in the development and implementation of all policies pertaining to the Husbandry and Facility Operations section of DLAM;
- Develop departmental policies and procedures on animal husbandry service operations including written protocols (SOP’s) for animal care, sanitation, facility operation, equipment and environmental monitoring;
- Assist in providing emergency coverage for animal facility operation;
- Perfom census and provide data to business manager.
Basic Requirements: An Associates Degree with 1-3 years of experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Office. Ability to lift 50lbs.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor´s Degree with 3-5 years of experience. ALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technicain (LAT) level or higher. If not AALAS certified at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level, certification should be obtained within one year of employment. Experience in a research support environment. Experience with regulations governing animal research Demonstrated productivity and effective interpersonal skills.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: On Call Hours required.
