The role of this position is to lead product formulation discovery and optimization during new product development for the Metals Polishing business. This will include working to define and clarify the key mechanisms governing the performance of these products and establishing the critical slurry parameters to be controlled in preparation for commercialization and scale-up.

Through either direct or indirect contact, develop slurry platforms and solutions that address the critical customer issues and continue to position Cabot Microelectronics Corporation as a technology leader in the field of CMP. Interface directly with our customer's R&D organizations, and rapidly provide solutions for their needs.

Design and execute experiments and manage development projects to experimental plans
Evaluate and optimize existing product platforms for new IC applications
Discover new platforms and slurry technologies as needed
Establish key slurry characteristics and mechanisms for controlling product performance
Communicate/discuss results directly with customers
Document research results including obtaining Intellectual Property
Promote/lead Design for Six Sigma research projects 

 

Position Requirements

Strong background in aqueous and interfacial chemistry.
Experience in interactions and reactions at solid interfaces a plus.
Expertise in statistical design of experiments and data analysis preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Highly innovative, creative and committed to continuous learning
Superior oral, written, and presentation skills
Ability to plan, organize, supervise and execute multiple and complex research projects
Ability to rapidly switch focus, demonstrate flexibility and be adaptable to change.
Background working with complex chemical problems required.
Experienced with databases and Microsoft Windows.
5+ years experience in applied research. Experience in an R&D setting preferred. 

 

Educational Requirements

PhD in a technical discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or related field) required; or advanced degree in science/related field and equivalent experience.
