Perform optical design for automotive lighting including feasibility studies, optical designs, hardware evaluations, problem-solving and launch support. Apply knowledge of physics, optics, and mathematics to create design solutions to automotive lighting engineering issues. Operate optical design and analysis software. Improve optical design software. Operate and program PC and Unix systems. Provide optical design guidance and technical advice to project engineers and designers. Design and conduct tests, lab set up, data acquisition, data analysis, and other evaluations for prototype and pre-production hardware and recommend design changes based on results. Assist development engineers with optical design and analysis needs. Generate new concepts of improving optical design capabilities. Document projects per optical design standards and non-project work per R&D department standards. Create new techniques and methodologies for optical design with new light sources, manufacturing techniques and other technologies. Perform feasibility studies for complex automotive lighting systems for automotive lighting components and markets. Initiate and lead large-scale projects to improve design capability of optical design team or to develop new optical design technologies. Act as team leader for optical design activities.
Requirements – U.S. Bachelor’s Degree or foreign degree equivalent in Physics, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering and two years of experience in the job offered or two years experience in Optical Engineering.
