Senior Mechanical Engineers
Perform automotive design engineering for drawn and form based stamped steel parts and Injection molded plastic parts using knowledge of sheet metal stamping and die process, joining and formability, exterior and interior plastic component design engineering, CATIA V5, BOM, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and Six Sigma methodologies. Design and develop body structure parts including dash, cowl, roof, interior and exterior plastic at various stages of product life-cycle. Coordinate automotive design engineering and development of automotive parts of a vehicle project such as Body-In-White (BIW), exterior trims, doors, hood, bumpers from concept stage through production. Plan structure of stamped steel parts through target setting, packaging and style feasibility. Design components using CATIA V5 to meet all engineering and functional requirements and targets including cost, weight. Verify design data to audit the design compatibility issues during all stages of vehicle development. Perform countermeasure studies and root cause analysis for different issues relating to quality based on CAE and stamping feedback during manufacturing process. Create drawings and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to component designs. Create part specification requirements and BOM. Perform Tolerance stack-up analysis and maintaining key product characteristics of the parts to perform tolerance studies. Document various analysis results to recommend design and process changes to improve quality and performance.
Requirements: Master’s Degree or foreign degree equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial and Systems Engineering and one year’s experience in position or one year’s experience in Automotive Design Engineering field (or Bachelor’s Degree and five years’ experience).
Special requirements: Experience with automotive design engineering of doors, hood and body in white; sheet metal stamping and die process; joining and formability; exterior and interior plastic component design engineering; CATIA V5; BOM; GD&T; tolerance stack-up analysis; and Six Sigma methodologies. Travel to various unanticipated client sites required. May reside anywhere in the United States.
